Flat pressure on the waist, rather than a ring, gives a similar but different feeling of pressure. Directed only from front to back.
Yes, you can use a rope and a stick to twist the handle behind the back of the chair.
But once the rope is already taut, it will take a lot of effort to pull the rope to flat.
I think two plates and screws are the best choice if you want to make yourself flat.

I was thinking of elastic bands used in gyms for muscle training - they wouldn't press hard immediately but shrink over time, giving the muscles and organs time to adapt, and as the waist relaxes the band sinks deeper and deeper. Several bands can be used for increased pressure but of course eventually it would be best to use something harder.
