Stasis in Oasis

Stasis is a kind of magic, and dancers that know this magic by heart can completely freeze in almost any imaginable position and spend minutes, hours or even a few days in trance. The internal connections within the body become so firm that it's almost impossible to move the limbs of the person who is in stasis, even by force. Because of this these youths are called "marble dancers".

In the streets of Oasis there are even special pedestals, empty and waiting to be occupied by marble dancers. The stasis magic is performed right in the streets and the living statues look absolutely ideal with the only exception that their skin remains soft to touch. But not just in the streets, inside the houses too, sometimes to train, sometimes to play and amuse.

Marble dancers generally are extremely flexible because mages don't teach stasis to just anyone, the dancer must first pass the tests of elegance and contortion skills. The dancers learn for several years to move as slowly as possible while contorting, flowing seemlessly from one position into another.

The best dancers like Hakim get a job in the amir's palace, but only the best of the best or those whom amir personally likes, but Hakim fits into both of these categories ^^
