Liches are notorious for being greedy, wanting to control a lot of minions, collect a lot of treasures, that can include not only money but also knowledge and skills. Granted, their only foe is boredom, but not time and age.

Ancient liches live in fortresses, have every damn skill in this world, uncountable amounts of gold, surrounded by whole villages full of minions... Well, novice liches can only stare out of the window of their rented tower and hope they will get there one day :/
