I don't remember any similar stories, but then again, I'm not taking writing seriously so I may forget about writing something similar in the past... It's actually very easy to avoid the disgusting topics like incest by saying the king didn't have his own children or wife, so he adopted a newborn baby from an orphanage in deep secrecy, after 13 years the adopted son grew up into a beautiful, promising smart boy, golden locks and good manners, of course nothing forbidden between him and the king at the moment. I watched the original Ranma series recently and seemed pretty good to me, in fact all the jokes and situations are much funnier in Ranma than in Inuyasha. In Inuyasha, I don't recall much humor at all, other than "Inuyasha sit down". But you're right about visuals, in Ranma the character designs are not so bright... Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, Shippou, Miroku are all memorable characters... In Ranma, I think it's a major disadvantage that Ranma girl and Ranma boy look like two different characters, they could have looked like the same character just changing genders but instead look like a bro and a sis who are not even twins.
